The Staver 4 P's Coaching Process
Click on each sub-category to reveal details for each "P."
1. The Purpose
• To Engage
• Intimacy - creating a relationship with you and your team that makes you know that you know (even though you don’t feel like you do)
- It’s authentic
- It’s clear
- It’s not about right and wrong it’s about results
• We have our heads wrapped around the fact that your world is more important than our world. You are at the center of what we do and why we do it. Every exercise, every story, every example is directly relevant to you and your development.
• To Illuminate
• Insight + application is the key to what we do. Insight without application is interesting, but useless. Application without insight is not sustainable and becomes a cold lifeless technique.
• We will shine a big bright light on the obvious and not so obvious and then you decide whether you want to deal with it
• We ask people what they are pretending not to know.
• To Challenge
• Every minute of the session is wrapped around challenging you to do something with “it”.
• Every minute of the session is designed to create a safe place for you to be real with yourself without making it too mushy or cheesy.
• Every minute of every session is spent getting you ready to accept a challenge. (i.e. 45 minutes alone each week thinking about the business).
• Every minute of every session is an opportunity to see things you haven’t seen before, or at least, in that light.
2. The Process
• Assessment
Regardless of the intervention, we are about assessment and diagnosis first. The assessment phase happens ALL the way through the experience. The question that should be in the forefront of you minds is, “What problem are we attempting to solve?” Truly understanding the deeper essence of your challenge will lead to feedback like, “that is exactly what I meant,” The greatest feedback we can get is, “you really listened to what we wanted and nailed it!”
• Intervention
- Assessments
- Coaching
- Product
• Follow-up
• It is critical that every intervention is evaluated. Evaluation may be as simple as a phone call to ask how we did, or something as complex as our accountability process.
• It requires clarity as to expectations in the beginning so that we are clear about how to evaluate success on the back end.
• Assists in understanding the extent to which the material is being integrated.
3. The Practice
• Surgical
We encourage short sessions…..no more than 45-50 minutes in a coaching session. If you ask us what time it is, we will tell you the time….we will not teach you how to build a clock. If you want us to feed you, we will feed you. We do not need to teach you how to fish…..no matter what that ridiculous cliché says.
• Socratic
Curiosity with a purpose. You will be asked questions that force thought. Solid meaningful questions that will lead you to the deepest insight you are capable of at the time. We do not know more than you. We know the questions, the sometimes very difficult questions, that will cause you to uncover what you already know.
- What would you need to believe to make that happen?
- What would you need to do to make that happen?
• Specific
Our process is wrapped around helping you with specific issues. This is why asking questions is so critical. It sets the expectation in the beginning of the relationship and requires you to take responsibility for your success.
• Soulful
We are focused on the heart and soul of a person. If we can help people be better people and, in turn, they share that new-found sense of purpose or significance, we have done our job. It is the only job we do that really matters.
4. The Procedure
You get to choose from numerous options that are related to your level of budget and commitment. You will get to choose from several options that we design for you or you can choose from our a la carte menu. Here are the various interventions we use to add value and drive results.
• Assessment instrument: We use the Harrison Assessment for all coaching clients that opt in for the instrument/assessment portion of the process
• Virtual coaching: Email, audio downloads, webinars etc are often used to reinforce the process.
• Semi-live – most coaching has as a semi live piece. Not to mean the coach is semi live….but that they work with you via phone, Skype, etc
• Live – often clients opt in for a live kick off especially when there is a group involved.
